Membership categories and fees
There are several categories of membership; trial membership, military membership, civilian membership, associate membership and honorary membership. All rates mentioned are effective from 01/01/06 and subject to annual review.
Trial membership
Trial membership is at the invitation of any full (military or civilian) member, and interested parties may request trial membership. There is a fee of 30 pounds, which covers insurance and equipment use for three events. After this time full membership may be offered at the discretion of the commanding officer. Trial membership allows prospective members to determine whether they enjoy the hobby without having to spend a large sum on equipment.
Military membership
Military membership covers both soldiers and musicians. To become a military member one must first pay a one-off joining fee of 50 pounds, and subscription of 15 pounds per month to the regimental account by standing order. This may seem like a large fee, but this allows us to supply members with uniforms and equipment to a high and uniform standard, as well as muskets, powder and tentage.
Civilian membership
Civilian membership includes those who take on appropriate roles, such as sutlers, servants soliders' or officers' wives. Civilian members are expected to provide their own clothing to an appropriate standard, and do not pay monthly subscription. The membership fee is 25 pounds per year, although this is reduced if another family member is already a full member (reduction dependent on national body membership rates).
Associate membership
Associate membership covers those who are interested in the hobby and may wish to receive hard copies of the newsletter, or attend events but not take part in period clothing. The fee is 10 pounds, or free for partners or dependents of full members.
Honorary membership
This category covers those we wish to honour and is therefore, of course, free.
Other expenses
In addition to membership fees, there will be a mess bill payable at each event one attends. This covers all food and drink supplied by the regiment during the event, as well as fuel (charcoal, lamp oil &c.). This rate is variable, but typically 15-20 pounds per person for a full weekend. Reduced fees may be available for those requiring only liquid refreshment (tea, coffee).
Some members choose to purchase their own equipment, muskets in particular, and are encouraged to do so if they wish. Members who leave the regiment may be entitled to keep items of uniform, the amount dependent upon the length of time they have been members and therefore the amount of subscription they have paid.
